This morning I went out in the backyard and found a newly hatched (if that's what they do?) green grasshopper hanging from the door on the kids' playhouse. Caleb was highly enthusiastic, which if you know him, is not the norm when it comes to bugs of any sort.
He really wanted to hold it or whatever, but Lewis also wanted it. It was brand 'new' and not hopping around which made it more exciting. So, I put it on a little stick and let Caleb carry it around. He was loving it.
Then we were going to put it up on the railing so they could watch it. Well, in about two seconds, Lewis reached up and squashed it with his hand - right in front of Caleb. Caleb cried, Lewis knew no different. Caleb didn't want the grasshopper to be dead and cried for a bit, but then played with something else.
My non-bug lover, loved a bug today - and my warrior? Smashed it. Such is life with toddlers.
And, as an update to the previous post: It has become clear that Lewis is not totally ready to be in the big boy bed. I would have preferred it different, but at this point, we are just sticking with the crib for a couple more months. We moved the crib into Caleb's room instead of the big boy bed and set up the pack and play with the bassinet in baby's room. It'll do for now.
